Studies reveal link between COVID-19 and Alzheimer’s disease-like cognitive impairment
New research led by Cleveland Clinic has discovered the mechanisms of Covid-19 that can lead to Alzheimer’s like cognitive impairment. The study published in ‘Alzheimer’s Research and Therapy has shown a similarity between Coronavirus infection and brain changes that happen often in the case of Alzheimer’s.
This finding may be helpful in risk management and forming therapeutic strategies for cognition associated with Coronavirus. “Identifying how Covid-19 and neurological problems are linked will be critical for developing effective preventive and therapeutic strategies to address the surge in neurocognitive impairments that we expect to see in near future,” said Feixiong Cheng, Lead Author of the research and Ph.D., assistant staff in Cleveland Clinic’s Genomic Medicine Institute.
